· sustain the practice through vision for the long term
For this workshop Chrystie has asked Next Library attendees and interested “followers” of the Next Library proceedings to participate in this discussion by talking about local experiences building their library communities. After a brief introduction, four presentations (of less than 7 minutes each) will lead the program.
Elise Sare – Burkina Faso
Irina Vyalih – Uzbekistan
Omar Abdi - Kenya
Nicola Harris, Anna Dixon – New Zealand and Brian Bannon – United States.
Nicola and Anna are presenting virtually from New Zealand; Brian is facilitating their portion of the interactive session.
Each presenter will then pose a single question for interactive consideration by our audience. We’ll build on small group discussions in a world café model. We hope you’ll join us!
Here follows some videos of reactions, comments, content and discussions from the session! Enjoy!

Elisee sent me a link to his FAVL blog today, where his colleague outlines the results of their most recent mayors meeting - looks like it was a great success!
It sounds like this turned out to be a great workshop. We have been enjoying hearing the responses to the question we posed.
If anyone is intersted to hear a bit more about our project we will be updating our Library blog as we go along. Here is the link so you can check out the community evening and what we have been up to so far.
Thanks to everyone who particpated!
Nicola and Anna
All of the videos that I took at the workshop are now posted to my channel on youtube here:

Click on "Building Your Library Community" on the right hand side bar (playlist). We recorded all (most) of the discussion from all four tables on nicola and anna's question regarding "community ownership" and the leader summaries are re-posted there as well.
Thanks again to everyone who participated in this great discussion!
Here are the mobile images that I took with my phone during our session. Not the best images, but hopefully it will give you a sense of our time there, and hopefully everyone is represented!

Thank you to the panelists and to the participants of this session. Each of the videos above has a quick summary of the solutions we built from our circle discussions throughout the session.
I have a lot of images and videos from the session that I'll be posting later on youtube and flickr - will let the group know here once I have posted them.
Thanks again,

Attending this session is one of my highlights of this conference and is very RELEVANT to me and all libraries in Botswana. I am surely going back to share a lot with my collegues.
The idea of getting Chrystie to come to Botswana and teach us more on community building just pumps me up. There has been and still is a huge gap between libraries and the community and im EXCITED because finally I see hope for Botswana Libraries to close that existing gap.
This session was tailor-made for BOTSWANA!!
Is it possible to post up a compilation of the suggestions that were made for the questions?? This will help me to compile recommendation to some questions that are practical in my country.
Im so glad I attended. Thank you Mrs Hill & ur team.
Thanx also for posting other presentation.
Kea leboga -( means thank you in my language)
Powerpoints and some pictures from the workshop has been uploaded! You will find them to the right of this page
The videos will be uploaded as soon as possible! Stay tuned on this channel
(They may be available in the Vimeo-feed as well. I will let you know.)

2. Nicola Harris/Anna Dixon: How do you encourage the local community to take owneship of the libarary based space and a leadership role in growth and leadership?
3. Irina: How can we attact adults to foreign language department and to library in general in low reading environment and community?
4. Omar: Are we really changing libraries in our communities/counties?
Want to know the outcome watch the videos.
Thank you SO MUCH everyone.
