Next Library Strategy: New Space for Break Points in Life / by Claudia Lux, Central and Regional Library Berlin/

People

Claudia Lux, Director General of the Foundation Central and Regional Library Berlin.

The Central and Regional Library in Berlin is quite a big Metropolitan Library. But without enough good space. A plan for a new big library is borne and the Major of Berlin is supporting a new 60.000 sqm building at the former airport field Tempelhof. ZLB as a driving force for development of a blank airfield space.

Nevertheless, ZLB cannot plan and move into a new building without changes. During the last strategic process summer 2010 we were looking at some of our users a little bit closer. Users, who have been in our children library decades ago and were still using the library. Why and when do they need the library? Are we able to take some ideas out of these aspects? What about the next generation- will they really stick to libraries? Can Break Points in Life be a motor of services?
