I hope it is OK to start a conversation like this on here…it just seemed like too good an opportunity to miss with such an eclectic range of people tuned in, each with so many different experiences.

I am based at Palmerston North City Library in New Zealand.  We are currently redeveloping some spaces in the library and have been inspired by Aarhus Public Library’s “Village Square” and “Transformation Lab”.

There is one space in particular that we want to do something unique and inspiring with for our community.  So, our next step is to invite people from grassroots level community groups into this space to talk about how they see themselves using it, engaging with the community in it, and how they see it developing.

It would be great to hear some thoughts about how to get ideas flowing and how to encourage people to take responsibility for the development of the space in the future.  It would also be interesting to hear about any similar spaces that have been developed in other countries and, equally important, if there are things that didn’t work or things you might have done differently.

Thanks so much!

Nicola and Anna

Hi Magdeline

Sadly, I am not able to be at the conference as I am based in New Zealand. However, my colleague Anna and I presented virtually at the Building your Library Community session on Monday. I don't know whether you managed to catch it...

If you would like to stay in touch then my email is nicola.harris@pncc.govt.nz. It would be great to hear about what you are involved in also.
