THE BUS LEAVES FROM HOTEL SCANDIC PLAZA in AARHUS at 9:00.

Study tour to Hjoerring Public Library and the Nordkraft Centre of Culture in Aalborg.

Hjoerring is located in the north-western part of Jutland – roughly 100 miles to the north of Aarhus. Hjoerring Public Library is part of a shopping mall called Metropol. Metropol is designed by the architects Schmidt, Hammer and Lassen. On 12. April 2008, the new central library opened in Hjørring and it has attracted superlatives from critics in the Danish library press. The library is described as Denmark´s most exciting example of a 21. century public library, as the most spectacular and ultimate library for experience and a place to be.What makes the library special is the interior. Hjoerring library houses interesting new shapes, furniture and design, which makes the library experience invigorating and provides it with an extra dimension.

Nordkraft Centre of Culture is a former coal- and oil-fired electric power plant station, now converted into a modern centre of culture and sports. The reconstruction is done with great respect for the original style and has been retained the original materials where it was possible. The building is 14 storeys high and covers an area of approx. 31.000m2.

En route, we visit Skråen Concert hall, the former turbine hall, now transformed into a multi-purpose hall. We visit an art exhibition, Denmark’s highest largest indoor climbing wall, modern sports facilities, the music- and art school, and much more. To date, more than 20,000 visitors from home and abroad has participated in guided tours of Nordkraft. It's certainly worth a visit.
